How much is it really worth having a top ranking on a Search Engine Results Page (SERP)? According to Internet World Stats – there are 247,637,606 internet users in the U.S. alone, that’s 73.4% of the population representing a penetration rate that is equal to if not greater than that of television.

Pew Internet has found that of the internet population, 56% or 138,677,060 people utilize Search Engines daily. Atlas Solutions conducted independent traffic research from a sample of 41,460,000 clicks and 408,000 keywords over a period of two months. They found that although conversion rates only fall about 20-30% between rank 1 and 10, the overall impact on conversion potential drops by 90%. (see figure 1.1) So even if you rank 7th on the page - as long as it is the FIRST page - then 24% of that 138,677,060 people who are searching, or 33,282,494 internet users, will be seeing your company's name - if even 1% of those people click on your page - that's 332,824 visitors to your site....
